YouTube Ban: Four Member Committee To Review Objectionable URLs

Posted By: Alia Rehman, July 02, 2013 | 12:33:17

ISLAMABAD: A four-member team has been formed by Information Technology Minister Anusha Rehman on Tuesday to review blasphemous and objectionable content on video sharing site YouTube, Express News reported.
The team which consists of four members will operate under the supervision of IT member Amir Malik.
Eight million URLs will be reviewed to filter objectionable content.
A report will then be submitted to Rehman for review, who will hand over the report to the inter-ministerial committee.
The final decision of lifting the ban off YouTube rests with the inter ministerial committee.
The popular video-sharing website was blocked in September 2012 by former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf after clips from a sacrilegious film titled ‘Innocence of Muslims’ sparked outrage and violence across the Muslim world.
YouTube parent company Google refused Islamabad’s and Washington’s requests to take down the video.
The site was only reopened in Bangladesh last month after almost eight months of blackout initiated over the sacrilegious film.
